Huawei adds IDEOS X5 to Android range

Huawei has unveiled its second IDEOS handset in four months, the IDEOS X5 as it looks to gain share in the smartphone market

Chinese infrastructure and handset manufacturer Huawei has launched the IDEOS X5 touchscreen smartphone, another device in its IDEOS range, running on Google’s Android 2.2 operating system.

The handset allows HSPA and WiFi 802.11n connectivity, and has a five megapixel camera, 720p high-definition video recording and playback, 4GB memory and an SD slot for increased memory.

Huawei chief marketing officer of devices Victor Xu said: “In today’s always-online world, the line between personal and professional life is blurring. Smartphones play an important role in helping people mange these two aspects of their lives conveniently and simply.

“The Huawei IDEOS X5 smartphone offers a perfect blend of style and technology that allows busy professionals to respond to work issues in real time while staying connected with loved ones and having fun at the same time.”

Huawei said its first IDEOS device, launched in September, has sold more than one million handsets in over 70 countries since launch.

The Huawei IDEOS X5 will be available in Singapore, Hong Kong and New Zealand thsi month, with other markets to follow.
