The FCC has mandated Long Term Evolution as the network technology required for use by first responders after a unanimous 5-0 decision this morning, with the regulator hoping that first responders will be able to take advantage of the voice, data and real-time video support in order to garner all the information needed to respond to an emergency before arrival.
The regulator is also seeking public commentary on the best equipment, coverage requirements and best type of encryption to use for the network.
