Meet the Samsung Gem, the Korean handset maker’s newest Android phone. It hasn’t been officially announced yet, but that, apparently, has no bearing what so ever as Samsung’s already posted this baby on their US website complete with specs.
So, is the Samsung Gem really a gem? Well, if it’s stellar specs is what you’re after, then the answer is a definite no. It only runs on an 800MHz processor, and features a 3.2-megapixel camera sans flash along with a clearly outdated Android clair as its OS. A 3.2-inch WQVGA touchscreen, Bluetooth, WiFi, microSD card slot (up to 16GB), and CDMA connectivity round up the rest of its specs. No carrier has officially announced the Samsung Gem yet, but word is both Cellular South and Verizon are in the running.
Will it be released in Canada? That remains to be seen, but since this is a CDMA phone, a number of carriers are already knocked off the list as possible candidate who’ll have the Gem as part of their 2011 line-up. Rest assured though, once we get word of its local availability, we’ll inform you guys ASAP.
