Want to enjoy wireless printing on your iPhone? There’s AirPrint in iOS 4.2 you can try which works with a handful of printers, or if you want something a bit more liberating, there’s Google’s Cloud Print you can use. Works with any printer you own, Google Cloud Print is compatible with iOS devices running on firmware 3.0 and above as well as Android phones with version 2.1 or newer installed.
You do have to link your printers first with your Google account, which is the first caveat here. To do this, you need to have Chrome 9.0.597.1 installed. This version of Chrome isn’t available for Mac and Linux systems. It only works with Windows XP, Vista, and Windows 7. The next downside is you can only print emails and certain attachments via the Gmail mobile site, and documents opened in Google Docs. Last but certainly not the least, since you’re tied down to the printers linked with your account, you can’t just print anywhere you want.
Do note, however, that this is still in beta so the drawbacks are somewhat expected. With that being said, this works perfectly as advertised. Set-up is quite easy, and printing on the go is hassle-free.
