The Motorola Triumph for Virgin Mobile is a game-changer in many ways for the Sprint subsidiary. Since it was revealed in a customer survey earlier this year (with many thinking it was an HTC device based on the specifications given) the phone as announced today marks a watershed moment for prepaid devices and service in general.
The Triumph features specifications that were considered to be the best of the marketplace just nine months ago in terms of raw power and still are high-end, with its 1GHz single-core Snapdragon processor, 512MB RAM, stock Android 2.2 build, 4.1 inch WVGA resolution display, front-facing camera, 5.0 megapixel camera with autofocus, flash and HD video capture, Wi-Fi N radio and HDMI output. The Triumph represents just how quickly high-end tech can change and get to a price point that can reach more people, instead of just being limited to those with carrier service agreements.
With Virgin Mobile, the Triumph is also poised to become even more popular than the Optimus V in terms of sales, owing to its DROID X-alike looks and power especially when combined with its current Beyond Talk plans. The idea of carrying the Triumph as a data-only device is sure to become a popular one, as long as Virgin Mobile follows its current trend of subsidies and prices the Triumph in order to draw in those that wouldn’t have normally considered a prepaid service. To add to the anticipation, Motorola has stated that the phone will ship this month.
