Has Verizon Forced AT&T to Drop iPhone 3GS Price?

So if you are the exclusive seller of the iconic iPhone and you are figuring you are about to lose your stranglehold over Apple’s darling device to a rival carrier, what do you do? Why you chop the asking price down on an older version of the smartphone in the hopes it will attract customers away from that rival.

Of course it’s all about Verizon probably announcing the arrival of the much wanted Verizon iPhone as according to an article over on Ubergizmo, AT&T has now chopped the price of the iPhone 3GS down to just $49 for the 8GB version which normally costs $99.

Obviously for those that are on a tight budget this is good news as they can gain an iPhone 3GS for just 50 bucks although it does mean you have to sign your life away for 2 years with the carrier with a new activation and based on a minimum data service starting at $15 a month.

So do you think that as the Verizon iPhone is soon to be released, Verizon has forced AT&T to drop the price of the iPhone 3GS, and will this price drop actually pull customers away from the impending Verizon iPhone?

Will you opt for the lower price AT&T iPhone 3GS or go for the new CDMA iPhone when it hits? Feel free to voice your views in our comments area below.
