Motorola tablet will be available at Carphone and Best Buy stores from tomorrow (April 21) for 579.99
The Motorola XOOM will be exclusively available to purchase from Carphone Warehouse and Best Buy tomorrow, the retailers have announced.
The ’3G with Wi-Fi’ XOOM device which runs on Android’s 3.0 or ‘Honeycomb’ platform will cost 579.99 SIM free.
It can also be purchased on Carphone’s operator Talk Mobile for a 199.99 upfront cost on a 25 a month, 24 month contract – but only for a “limited time” according to the retailers.
The Motorola Xoom tablet is the the first non-smartphone device to use Google’s latest Android 3.0 platform and will also be the first tablet to connect to Google’s Mobile innovation service which offers books, music and movies.
It features of the XOOM a 10.1 inch widescreen, five mega pixel camera and the option to upgrade to 4G technology.
Speaking about the launch of the XOOM, Carphone chief commercial officer Graham Stapleton said: “Tablets offer users an incredible experience and with the exclusive arrival of the Motorola XOOM 3G in our stores we are proud to say the experience will be enhanced.”
The exclusive XOOM deal comes almost a month after Mobile News reported Carphone plans to distance itself from selling laptops and netbooks instead placing its focus on the tablet market. Carphone’s Best Buy locations will continue to stock conventional laptops.
Carphone currently sells the iPad, iPad2, the HTC Flyer, the Asus Transformer, the Samsung Galaxy Tab and will soon stock the Galaxy Tab 10.1 and the BlackBerry PlayBook.
“The tablet market has huge growth potential. Our ambition is to make The Carphone Warehouse the home of tablets,” a Carphone spokesperson told Mobile News at the time.
