Apple Launches Mac App Store with OS X Update

Mac App StoreAs expected, Apple has launched their long awaited Mac App Store for Mac OS X with the 10.6.6 update. To celebrate its opening, Apple is running a fire sale on some of its most popular yet typically expensive applications.

Photo editing application Aperture 3 is $79 vs $199 for the boxed retail version and Remote Desktop is currently $79 vs $299 retail, suggesting that Apple is willing to take a margin loss on total profit in order to draw in users and customers to the store.

In another interesting bit of news, the Mac OS X version of smash hit Angry Birds is also available and save data from the iOS version is fully compatible with the desktop version, confirming that application porting between iOS and OS X is possible and requires minimal work.
