RIM Sends Out Alert on BlackBerry 6 Browser Exploit

RIM logoRIM has sent out notice to owners of BlackBerry devices running BlackBerry 6 warning of a recently discovered browser exploit in the new WebKit-based browser first discovered during the Pwn2Own conference. The exploit allows access to the memory card and media stored on internal memory, but does not allow access to contacts, calendar entries or email. As a precaution, RIM is recommending owners disable JavaScript rendering in the browser, disable the browser entirely or cease using it until the exploit is patched, with instructions on how to disable the browser and/or JavaScript available here.
