Tele2 today introduced the BlackBerry solution for its customers in the Netherlands. According to Market Research Agency GfK Retail and Technology, BlackBerry was the number one smartphone in The Netherlands in calendar year 2010. Tele2 is launching the BlackBerry Torch 9800, BlackBerry Bold 9780 and BlackBerry Curve 3G smartphones together with cost effective service plans, extending the availability of these popular smartphones to Tele2’s customers.
“We notice that our customers use their smartphone more and more for e-mailing and surfing and BlackBerry smartphones are the most popular for these,” says Herwin Van der Kamp, director consumer market Tele2. “By adding BlackBerry smartphones to our range, we can give our best deals – a low price point combined with the smartphone our customers want.”
The launch of the BlackBerry solution is a key part of Tele2’s growth strategy. It follows the April 2010 acquisition of a license for 2.6 GHz frequency, and the launch of the first 4G network in the Netherlands 3 months later. Building a cost-efficient network also requires low frequencies and Tele2 is now advocating for 2 newcomers to receive a protected status at the mobile auction of 800, 900 and 1800 MHz in 2012.
BlackBerry smartphones will be available in the short term in combination with a Tele2 business service plan.
