With all the rumors going around, LG decided to just give in and half-heartedly announce the LG Optimus 3D. You know, like in a real press release, sans all the juicy details you really want.
Basically, it's a teaser announcement. They confirmed that the "world’s first 3D smartphone" will debut at the Mobile World Congress, which is slated to take place in the third week of this month.
A couple of curious things. The press release says that the LG Optimus 3D "addresses the lack of 3D content issue" and that it will be "a complete platform." Both of those aren't exactly clear, but if it's just rhetoric on the fact that the phone can record 3D content via the confirmed dual-lens camera module, I'll be a little disappointed. Just a little, mind you.
Aside from the 3D-shooting camera, other confirmed details include a a glasses-free stereoscopic LCD (rumored to be 4.3 inches) , HDMI and DLNA. Reports gander that the processor will be a 3D-enabled Tegra 2, that it will be running Android 2.3 Gingerbread and that the dual-camera setup will feature 8.0 megapixel lenses.
Obviously, many eyes will be on the LG Optimus 3D come MWC. New tech that actually offers something novel is exciting, after all.
